The Importance of Health and Safety Training in Mining and Manufacturing Industries

Lifting Equipment has taken over much of the work which has in the past been carried out by manual labour. This has greatly reduced the number of accidents once caused by workers manhandling excessively heavy loads. In order to prevent further accidents involving lifting equipment, a structured training programme is necessary. The Mining and Manufacturing Industries in Ghana are legally required to train individuals on lifting equipment, under Ghana's Mining regulations. There are important safety rules for the operation of lifting equipment which should be employed by all concerned with operating, supervising or supplying work place transport. It must be emphasised that knowledge of safety rules is on its own not sufficient to qualify anyone to operate a Forklift truck.

Authorisation to operate any work place transport should consist of:-
  • A thorough selection system which includes a medical examination and an eye test
  • Training from an accredited organisation such as Agyle Safety Training Institute
  • A competence test, along with a certificate of basic training to operate a Forklift truck.

For convenience and ease in the understanding of the safety code, our training syllabus has been divided into three sections:

  •  Preparation
  • Operation
  • Maintenance
